From the Desk of the Pastor ~ How important is this miracle to the Gospel writers? Of all the miracles that are mentioned in the Gospels attributed to Jesus during his Galilean ministry only the miracle of the multiplication of loaves is mentioned in all four Gospels. On one level Christ is responding to the physical needs of the people: those who needed healing were healed, and those who were hungry were fed. The gospels do not specify what miraculous cures Christ does, and the miracle that so many were fed with so little (five loaves and two fish) is at first unknown by the crowd. Yet, they are part of the miracle. How often this is true today. Christ is at work every day bringing his healing power into the lives of his people and most miracles go unnoticed. Christ calls His people to be part of the Eucharistic miracle at every Mass. Yet, the vast majority of Catholics do not accept Christ's invitation each week to be part of this awesome miracle. The Gospel writers knew that this miracle was far greater than meeting the physical needs of God's people. It was a miracle that touched the very heart and soul of our spiritual life. From the Desk of the Pastor ~ Today we celebrate one of the most sacred dogmas of the Church, Holy Trinity. Most simply stated it is the revealed truth that there is only one God and three in persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is also a dogma that has been challenged with many heresies since the very first century. To mention a few of them: Monarchianism (only one person in God), Modalism (one God but three ''masks" God wears, Subordinationism (one God and three persons but the last two persons are not equal with the first), Arians (the Word of God, Jesus, did not exist from all eternity), Macedonians (the Holy Spirit is really just an angel of God), Tritheism (three Gods not one), and the list goes on and on. The basic problem is human intellect. The mind cannot grasp fully what faith declares to be absolute truth. However, as our faith is tested we find ourselves growing in faith and our minds becoming more open to the spiritual realities given to us by God. 5 girls from Danbury enjoyed a concert tonight put on by the Twin Lakes Bible Camp staff. Camp Cayoca has been a great few days for the girls of Erin & Joey Allen, Jason & Julie Weeder Hamann, Molly & Eric Petersen, Bill & Christine Craig, and Jamey & Anna Grell. Keep them in your prayers ~ that they may grow in their faith, learn more about vocations, be a witness to others about the love Christ has for us all, make new friends, travel safely home, and sleep at least 7 hours tonight.
We have 5 girls & 2 counselors at Camp Cayoca for the next few days. Let’s keep them in our prayers ~ Counselors: Molly & Amanda, Campers: Gabby, Billi, Mikayla, Emily, & Lydia. Have fun, ladies!
From the Desk of the Pastor ~ "He breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit'." The very action of Christ is to recall the words of Genesis 2:7 and the creation of Adam, "The Lord God formed man out of the clay of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life..." In Genesis the "breath" placed into Adam would distinguish him from all other creatures. This ''breath" created "man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them." No other animal would receive this "breath". The very word would not be used again until we come to Pentecost and Jesus would "breathe" upon His disciples and through the gift of the Holy Spirit they would be created anew. No longer men who ran from the cross, men who in fear of the Jews locked themselves in the upper room. The Holy Spirit would give them peace, will teach them everything, send them forth in the world to preach and teach the Good News of Jesus Christ, to forgive sins, to do miracles in Christ's name. Their lives would be forever changed. The Holy Spirit seeks to change your life, to open your locked doors, to send you forth to live your life for Christ. That is the promise of Pentecost. Fr.
